Setting up your Broadband using routers not purchased through us
This guide contains troubleshooting for routers not purchased through ADSL4Less. Please note the following is a general guide and obviously hardware setup programs will vary. If you require troubleshooting help with modems please click here.
| Step 1 |
You can follow either of the following two methods:
Telnet to the router from a DOS prompt:
| A |
Go to Start > Run |
| B |
Type cmd (if this fails type command) |
| C |
Type telnet 192.168.1.1
(The IP will vary depending on the default setting used by the manufacturer) |
| D |
If successful you will be asked for a username / password. Enter the default settings (again depends on manufacturer)
For example - admin/admin admin/1234 |
OR
Open your browser such as Internet Explorer
| A |
Type http://192.168.1.1 (again IP depends on router default) |
| B |
Enter default username and password |
|
| Step 2 |
Once logged in via telnet or through the browser control panel check the following …
| A |
Username and Password |
| B |
VCI set to 38 and VPI set to 0 |
| C |
Encapsulation: PPPoA |
| D |
Multiplexing: VC Based |
Tip: Do not enter your static IP address in your router settings. PPPoA does not work like this as the connection is via DHCP. Make sure the connection is set to one of following:
DHCP
Server assigned
Dynamic
Click OK and try to dial again. |
