Broadband for Less - Support

Setting up your Broadband using our BT Wireless Router using a Mac
(OS X and OS 9)


The following instructions are for someone using a Mac. If you are using a pc please see our pc setup instructions.


Step 1

Install your Microfilters

A Firstly ensure that ...  
Your Broadband line is active  
Any previously used Broadband modem has been uninstalled from your computer and unplugged from your Broadband line
B Plug a microfilter into EVERY telephone socket that has telephony
  equipment attached to it (e.g. phone, fax, answering machine).
C Connect your existing telephony equipment to the Phone socket of the Microfilter)


Step 2

Set up BT Voyager 2100 Base Unit

A Locate the BT Voyager 2100 near a phone socket on your Broadband ADSL line.
B Plug the Power Supply and the black ADL line cord into the sockets on the back of the Voyager 2100 Base Unit (sockets are marked Power and DSL respectively).
C Plug the power supply into the nearest mains socket and make sure the socket is switched on.
D Plug the other end of the black ADSL line cord into the DSL socket of the nearest microfilter.
E Press the power switch on the back of the Voyager 2100 to switch it on. The power light on the front will turn green.
F Wait up to one minute until the DSL light on the front stops flashing and is solid green.


Step 3- Configure Network Settings

OS X

A Click on your Hard Drive icon on your desktop
B Double click on the Applications folder
C Double click on the System Preferences Icon.
D Click on the Network icon.
E Click on the drop down menu Show:
F Select your 802.11b Wireless LAN Adapter in the list (e.g. Apple Airport) or, for a wired connection, select Built-in Ethernet
G Select the TCPIP Tab (Shown above)
H Click on the drop down menu Configure:
I Select the option Using DHCP
J Click Apply now and close the window.
K Restart your Macintosh

OR

OS 9

A Click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner of the screen
B From the menu select Control Panels and then TCPIP
E Select your 802.11b Wireless LAN Adapter in the list (e.g. Apple Airport) or, for a wired connection, select Built-in Ethernet
F Select Using DHCP Server from the Configure: drop down menu.
G Close the window.
H Press Save
I Restart your Macintosh


Update Broadband connection details
You only need to follow these instructions once, immediately after installing your Voyager 2100 or if you change your Broadband ADSL account settings.

To set or update your Broadband ADSL connection settings:
A Click http://voyager.home to start your Internet browser and open the BT Voyager Configuration Manager
B If this address does not work, try http://192.168.1.1 instead
C Ensure the BT Voyager is 'ready to connect' to Broadband. Click Help if the Broadband line is 'not ready'.
D Enter the Broadband User Name and Password given by your ADSL service provider
E Click Connect

Note: If there is no Connect button on the screen but only a Disconnect button, then you are already connected to Broadband. If you still cannot browse the Internet, click Disconnect, then follow steps above again. You should now be able to surf the broadband Internet.



Set applications to use LAN
(if a dial-up networking screen appears when trying to connect to the Internet)

If you have had the option for your Macintosh to automatically dial a connection when you open your browser you will need to follow instruction below to deselect this option.

OSX

A Click on your Hard Drive icon on your desktop
B Double click on the Applications folder
C Double click on the System Preferences Icon.
D Click on the Network icon.
E Click on the drop down menu Show:
F Select your dial up modem from the list.
G Select the PPP tab
H Click the button PPP Options…
I Deselect the option Connect automatically when needed
J Click OK
K Click Apply to the Network window to save the changes

OR

OS 9

A Click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner of the screen
B From the menu select Control Panels and then Remote Access
C Click the Options… button.
D Select Protocol tab
E Deselect the option Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications
F Click OK
G Close the window and Save the settings
